About
Opera San Antonio Chorus
The OPERA San Antonio chorus is a group of dedicated singers from San Antonio, Bexar County and surrounding areas which provides the ensemble for the company’s mainstage performances. Composed of diverse members from the community, singers have the unique opportunity to perform with outstanding principal artists in fully-staged productions at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts. The chorus rehearses in the weeks leading up to productions, and receives compensation for rehearsals and performances. Choristers may also be cast in small roles, and participate in community outreach programs.
Chorus positions are filled by audition.
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates should prepare and memorize two selections, one of which must be an aria; the remaining selection may come from another source, such as art song, oratorio, operetta, or musical theater. One of these must be in a language other than English.
An accompanist will be provided for you.
Please provide music in the appropriate key, either in a book or a binder. A recent photograph and resume to be presented at the time of audition are also helpful.
Audition times are available through SignUpGenius.
HEALTH & SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:
Proof of a negative Covid-19 rapid test with results submitted 24 hours prior to your audition time is also required.
Auditionees will be required to wear a mask at all times except during the audition. If selected for participation in the chorus, proof of Covid-19 vaccination will be required.
* Artists interested in auditioning who are currently unvaccinated may submit a video audition. Any singer, regardless of vaccination status, may submit a video for consideration in place of an in-person audition to madeline@operasa.org.
