free pre-show lectures:
One hour prior to each performance, audience members are encouraged to attend a free lecture that is open to all ticket holders. These lectures, held in the Tobin Center’s Feik Rotunda, are designed to be educational for opera-goers of all ages and are offered to help the audience gain a better understanding of the production they are about to experience.

OPERA San Antonio reunites with Austin Opera for La traviata, presented in the famed Desmond Heeley production originally created for Lyric Opera of Chicago. A work of heartbreaking beauty and emotional power, La traviata follows Violetta’s journey through love, sacrifice, and societal judgment, all set to some of Verdi’s most beloved and soaring music. Heeley’s designs have been celebrated for their beauty and grandeur, making this a Traviata of rare visual richness and musical intensity. Audiences can expect exquisite costumes, stunning visuals, and world-class operatic voices in one of opera’s most timeless and devastating masterpieces.
