July 23, 2025 (New York) — OPERA America is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2025 National Opera
Trustee Recognition Awards, which honor outstanding trustees of North American opera companies for their
exemplary leadership and service on behalf of their respective organizations.
OPERA San Antonio (OSA) is pleased to announce its 10th Anniversary Season. The 2024/25 Season, “Exploring New Horizons” is sure to be a historic year as we showcase the current and historical context of opera.
Today OPERA San Antonio (OSA) is pleased to announce that Amahl and the Night Visitors will be presented throughout San Antonio this December. As part of OSA’s mission to make the arts accessible across San Antonio, this production of Amahl will be presented at four venues in collaboration with Magik Theatre, Alamo Heights Methodist Church, Carver Community Cultural Center, and Edgewood Fine Arts Academy. This production will also include the Classical Music Institute Orchestra.
Today OPERA San Antonio is pleased to announce that Hansel and Gretel will be presented this fall in collaboration with Classical Music Institute (CMI), Children’s Chorus of San Antonio (CCSA), Youth Orchestras of San Antonio (YOSA), and Ballet San Antonio (BSA). For the first time in the Tobin Center’s history all of the Resident Companies are united and performing together.
Despite the strike announced by the Musicians of the San Antonio Symphony, the production of Don Giovanni will move forward, using the distinguished pianist Mario Marra and other musicians to be announced. The distinguished cast and creative team of Don Giovanni have been in rehearsal and are fully prepared to give San Antonio a first-rate performance of live music.
The Texas Opera Alliance today announces that acclaimed bass baritone Ryan Speedo Green will be its first Artist in Residence. Beginning Friday, March 12, and culminating with his performance at the end of the month in Austin Opera’s An All-Star Concert, Green will participate in a variety of outreach and performance programs for the Alliance’s five member companies: Austin Opera, The Dallas Opera, Fort Worth Opera, Houston Grand Opera, and OPERA San Antonio.
Today OPERA San Antonio announces its return to live performances at the Tobin Center for the first time since the start of the pandemic. Starting today, March 1st, tickets are on sale for two “highlights” concert performances of Gaetano Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor on May 6 and 8, 2021. The production features Metropolitan Opera star Brenda Rae in the title role, San Antonio’s own star baritone Scott Hendricks as Enrico, and Scott Quinn, making his OSA debut as Edgardo. Rounding out the cast are South African bass Musa Ngqungwana, Austin-based mezzo-soprano Claudia Chapa, and local tenor Rick Novak.
OPERA San Antonio is pleased to announce the creation of the Texas Opera Alliance (TOA) - a unique partnership between Houston Grand Opera, The Dallas Opera, Fort Worth Opera, Austin Opera and OPERA San Antonio.
Today OPERA San Antonio announces its 2020-21 season. OSA has been carefully monitoring the pandemic and the impact it continues to have on the operatic arts across the globe. The company will return to live performances at the Tobin Center on May 6 and 8, 2021, with Gaetano Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor.
As information on COVID-19 continues to evolve, OSA’s priority is to keep our community safe. For the well-being of our patrons, donors, artists, and staff OSA has made the difficult decision to cancel the upcoming performances of Rigoletto, education and community engagement programs, and donor events through the end of May.
